Empowering Women: The Rise of Female Business Leaders

Living Local, Leading

I have always believed in the idea of “living local, thinking global.” But never has that belief felt more real-or more powerful-than in my journey building Grace to Grow. What started as a deeply personal mission in Jamaica has become a global movement, thanks to the incredible reach of the internet and the spirit of collaboration it enables.

Today, Grace to Grow is guided by advisors in Sweden, Germany, Jamaica, and Switzerland; supported by volunteers in Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, the UK, and Jamaica; and has welcomed participants from Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria, Kenya, Trinidad, and Jamaica. This kaleidoscope of cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives is not just inspiring, it’s proof of what’s possible in a connected world.

Lessons from a Digitally Connected World

The internet has truly become a digital highway for information exchange, allowing organisations like ours to break down barriers of geography, language, and time zone. Here’s what I’ve learned about the power of globalisation, facilitated by technology:

  • Access to Global Talent: No longer limited by borders, we can bring together the best advisors, volunteers, and participants from around the world, each adding unique value and insight to our mission.
  • 24/7 Collaboration: With team members across continents, Grace to Grow benefits from a “follow-the-sun” workflow-progress never stops, as someone, somewhere, is always moving the vision forward.
  • Resource Maximisation: Digital platforms help us maximise our resources, scaling our impact without the overhead of traditional brick-and-mortar operations.
  • Diverse Perspectives: Our global team brings a richness of ideas, cultural wisdom, and problem-solving approaches that simply wouldn’t be possible in a local-only context.
  • Amplified Storytelling & Community: Social media and online platforms allow us to share stories, mobilise support, and create a sense of community that transcends borders.

The Internet: The Great Equaliser for Social Impact

Technology has transformed the way social enterprises operate. From streamlining operations and automating tasks to leveraging data for greater impact, digital innovation allows us to focus more on our core mission- empowering women to walk in their God-given purpose. Online volunteering and remote collaboration have become the norm, enabling anyone with a computer and a passion for change to contribute meaningfully, no matter where they are in the world.

Scripture Spotlight ✝️Acts 1:8:

“…and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

This scripture reminds me that our mission is not confined to our immediate surroundings; our calling and our impact are truly global, giving life to the Great Commission.

The Science Behind Global Virtual Teams

🔬Productivity & Innovation: Virtual teams often outperform traditional teams, thanks to real-time communication, access to global talent, and the ability to work around the clock.

Cost Efficiency: Technology reduces the need for physical offices and travel, maximising every donor dollar and volunteer hour.

Continuous Learning: Digital transformation encourages ongoing skill-building and adaptability, essential for thriving in a fast-changing world.

Fun Fact of the Week 🤔

Over 11,000 online volunteers complete about 17,000 assignments each year through the UN’s online platform, proving that meaningful change can be driven from anywhere with just an internet connection.
