Show Notes

“If we tried to think of a good idea, we wouldn’t have been able to think of a good idea. You just have to find the solution for a problem in your own life.” -Brian Chesky, Co-founder of Airbnb

Going to school to get a decent job is how we have been brainwashed in the Western world to think. This kind of mindset only hinders true creativity, innovation and growth. When we are placed in an environment that allows us to be ourselves, we realize that we are taken on a path of self-discovery. That what’s entrepreneurship does, allows you to be you, to fail, to be excited about learning and contributing to your world.

Bill shared very passionately about shifting mindset in young people and why they should be taught the necessary skills from early on.

Here is a snippet of what she shared on this episode of the podcast:

Entrepreneurship in schools

“…what’s interesting to me is that we’ll see students that just are not successful in school. And in traditional school, you know, kids with behavioral problems, kids that are operating below grade level, kids with learning disabilities, and all of a sudden, we provide this environment where they are free to explore they are free to make mistakes, they’re no longer restricted, they can get out and move around, they could start real businesses. And what we see is an incredibly high engagement level of these kids. So what’s powerful is now families and teachers are able to see this whole new side and also the children themselves see a whole new side they weren’t exposed to. So my advice to families is, you know, what, really allow kids to explore their passions and really help them discover that you know what, there are ways that you can earn a living and be quite successful by exploring your passions and really building on that I think that self awareness piece is so key.”

Hot Point: Entrepreneurial thinking is crucial to success even if you are working for someone else. Make growth and development as part of your regular practice, welcome mistakes and treat them as learning opportunities and ask for help when you need it.
