It is time for another episode. I am Heneka Watkis-Porter, the host and creator of The Entrepreneurial You podcast. Welcome back to my regular listeners, and a special welcome to you if you are new. Last week I went solo, giving some podcasting tips on coming up with your Podcast Topic, finding proof of Concept and creating your Uniqueness.
This week, I am going solo again to share a bit about who I am and to talk about three benefits of coaching, but first, let me thank those who continue to support The Entrepreneurial You: The National Peoples Co-operative Bank of Jamaica Limited, Profit Jumpstarter, and The Jamaica Stock Exchange whose podcast, The Jamaica Stock Exchange & You, is hosted and produced by me. Do give it a listen as well.
Opening business Tip courtesy of the National PC Bank of Jamaica: Get Organized – successful businesses are built on the organization. Disorganization can either make or break your business. Without organization, tasks can pile up, and you can lose valuable money and time.
I am Heneka Watkis-Porter, an entrepreneur, Corporate podcast Host/Producer, coach, 5x author (about to be 7 in a few weeks), international speaker and host of The Entrepreneurial You Podcast and TV Show.
I have interviewed Lisa Nichols, Les Brown, Richard Branson, John Lee Dumas, Paul Carrick Brunson, Seth Godin and many other influencers on The Entrepreneurial You podcast.
In addition to The Entrepreneurial You podcast, I host and produce other business podcasts for corporate clients.
I am the founder and CEO of Patwa Apparel and the creator of the Caribbean’s first virtual conference and expo: The Entrepreneurial You Virtual SME Conference & Expo and the Online Health Summit, Slow Down And Live: Health Is Wealth.
I have successfully hosted Leadercast events in Jamaica and written for the Leadercast blog and Thrive Global. I have also worked as a video journalist for a top-rated video app headquartered in China.
I am whom you need to coach you to the next level.
Let’s talk, and it doesn’t matter where in the world you are!
Have you ever decided to forge ahead with a project and look back and say, “I wish I knew more when I started?” “I made a ton of mistakes, costly mistakes!” “This sucks” No matter who we are; we will look back and say, ‘I could have done better.’
It’s not that you aren’t talented. You are intelligent, knowledgeable and ambitious. That’s why you have all these ideas in your head. But, they are no good if you never take action on them. Then you decide to take action and, as I said in the beginning, make all the mistakes you wish you hadn’t.
That is why having a coach is essential. The field of sports can teach us many things. Just examine the best athletes in the world. I am Jamaican; I will use an example from here. Retired Jamaican Sprinter Usain Bolt, in his heyday, credits his former coach, Glen Mills, for his tremendous success as the world record holder in the 100 meters, 200 meters and four x1 00 meters Relay.
Track and Field sensation Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce would not have had the success she did, becoming the fastest mother in history without the help of a coach.
Truth
Why do people hire coaches? It is a requirement of a coach to be truthful to her clients. To move from stuck to unstuck, people need someone who can tell them the truth about themselves without the added pressure of thinking about how it will affect the relationship afterwards. Also, when someone is close to you, they can’t see your blind spots. A coach considers that quickly and can give guidance accordingly.
Sounding Board
A coach provides a sounding board to bounce your many ideas off. Your friends and colleagues mean well, but often a conversation becomes about them as they start to tell you what they would do in a particular scenario. But they are not you, so telling you what they would do doesn’t help much. Having a coach allows you to share things you can’t openly share elsewhere.
Accountability
Finally, coaches provide an avenue for accountability. This value isn’t just in a transaction sense but also transformational. An effective leader understands that people will not reach for the future before they touch the past. When this connection happens, transformation comes and that causes movement and momentum.
As a certified coach, I want to do all of the above for you and more. Join my upcoming Group Coaching program on the 9th of November for an intense three weeks of transformation at a whopping 90% discounted rate of US$99.00. One on One Coaching is also available.
