Empowering Women: The Rise of Female Business Leaders

The Audacity of a Child’s Dream

Isn’t it remarkable how a single moment can transport us back to the origins of our boldest dreams? Recently, while interviewing a top entrepreneur for my TV show, he shared how his childhood dream of flying—sparked at age four—had just become reality with his pilot certification. Instantly, I was back in my own childhood, standing in a lush garden, convinced I could fly. I dragged a bench outside, climbed up, lifted my arms, and waited for the wind to carry me. Gravity, of course, had other plans.

That moment, though it ended with my feet firmly on the ground, was more than a child’s folly. It was the first spark of the audacity that would shape my life and leadership. Like so many entrepreneurs and leaders, I saw possibility where others saw limits. I dared to believe in a future that didn’t yet exist—and that’s the essence of true leadership.

Soaring Against All Odds: The Aerodynamics of Life

While gravity kept me grounded that day, I’ve since discovered a greater law: the law of aerodynamics. My life’s journey—growing up without parents, surviving abuse, and battling self-doubt—created immense personal gravity. But resilience, adaptability, and a relentless drive to learn became my wings. Just as aerodynamics allows a plane to defy gravity, these qualities have allowed me to rise above adversity.

Leaders face invisible barriers every day: doubts, fears, systemic challenges, and painful histories. Yet, we find our own “aerodynamics”—the inner strength and resourcefulness that generate lift, even in the face of headwinds. That interview, at a moment when I felt emotionally low, reminded me of the many “firsts” I’ve achieved by daring to believe and act.

The Power of Pioneering: Creating My Own Take-Offs

My journey is marked by a series of “firsts”—not just as accomplishments, but as acts of pioneering and innovation:

Launched a T-shirt company promoting Brand Jamaica, championing cultural pride and entrepreneurship.

Developed a sauce and condiments line, breaking into new markets with creativity and grit.

Created the Caribbean’s first SME conference and expo before COVID, identifying a market gap and executing a bold vision.

Hosted four Leadercast events and co-founded She Leads with the Jamaica Stock Exchange, building platforms for empowerment and strategic partnerships.

Started a successful podcast in Jamaica before it was “a thing,” interviewing global icons and leveraging new media for influence.

Conceptualized and hosted LeadHerShip, a leadership event on a cruise to the Bahamas, demonstrating creative problem-solving.

Embraced my role as a 7x author, speaker, coach, and mentor, developing others in Jamaica and beyond.

Launched Grace to Grow, a global social enterprise, deepening my commitment to social impact and collaboration.

These “firsts” are more than milestones—they are proof of the willingness to take risks, innovate, and carve new paths, inspiring others to follow.

My Mission: Life Transformation Through Inspiration

Living my mission of life transformation through inspiration means soaring, even when my wings grow weary. True leadership requires endurance, self-belief, and the courage to be vulnerable. There will always be moments of doubt or exhaustion, but leaders refuel, recalibrate, and recommit, knowing their journey creates new possibilities for others.

Sharing my story—especially the moments of struggle—reminds me and those I serve that overcoming adversity is not just possible, but powerful.

What “firsts” are you working towards? How are you generating your own “aerodynamics” to overcome challenges?

A reminder that hope and faith are the ultimate sources of lift, even when life’s gravity feels overwhelming.

The Science of Resilience and Vision

According to Harvard Business Review, organizations led by visionary, resilient leaders are 50% more likely to outperform their peers in times of uncertainty.
