You may have heard it said over and again that, “you network is your net worth.” How does one with a story such as Jon’s get to talk about leveraging the power of your network anyways?
After all, having witnessed his parents go through a messy divorce, among other things that no child should have to, Jon was no stranger to hard times. In fact, there was a point when a woman who was entrusted to take care of him did everything but. At a point, Jon was so ashamed of himself he washed his face at an angle to prevent himself from seeing his reflection in the mirror.
Eventually, Jon landed his ‘dream job’ but it was not all it seemed. Jon’s story isn’t all gloom and doom though. When he was at his lowest point, he saw a quote that says, “what stands in the way becomes the way.”
At that moment he realized he had to take stock of his life. He took an inventory of all the things he had in his life. Because at the core people really want to help others and he was able to get that help.
Take Action
Sometimes we get paralzyed because we don’t know the next action to take but once you reach out and let others know what you are doing, you will be rewarded for taking that action. That he did and that’s when his life started to change.
The most important thing to note when you are reaching out is to add value first. Find out how what is important, being of service to others and watch it comes right back to you.
Find out something that means a lot to those you want to reach out to and do that thing.
Give without expecting anything in return.
