Empowering Women: The Rise of Female Business Leaders

Let’s be real—sometimes, life feels overwhelming. You wake up, and the weight of the world presses down on you. The drive, the passion, the motivation? It’s just not there. I know this feeling well because I’ve battled depression myself (and I am not talking about just being sad, here).

For years, I have been known as the one who gets things done—driven, structured, and always pushing forward. But behind the scenes, I have also faced some of the darkest moments of my life. Moments when I wanted to give up, when simple tasks felt impossible, when even my passion for creating and serving felt like a heavy burden.

But despite it all, I still keep going. Not because I feel like it at times, but because I have built habits and systems that carry me even when my emotions can’t.

How I Push Through Depression and Stay Productive

Here are some of the strategies that help me show up and get things done—even when I don’t feel like it:

Structure & Routine Save Me

I thrive on structure. Depression thrives on chaos. So, I’ve trained myself to stick to a routine. I may not feel like working on a proposal or producing a podcast, but my structured system reminds me that this is what needs to get done. Having clear, non-negotiable daily tasks keeps me from falling into a cycle of inaction.

I Start Small—Really Small

When depression tries to convince me that I can’t do anything, I fight back with the tiniest action. One email. One phone call. One paragraph. One proposal. Action breeds momentum, and momentum silences the voice of doubt and darkness.

I Rely on My Why

When my energy is low, I remind myself why I started. I think about the lives I’m impacting through Grace to Grow Mentorship & Training, The Entrepreneurial You podcast, LeadHerShip, etc. I remember that my work is bigger than me and my mission remains: Life Transformation Through Inspiration.

I Use My Support System

Even the strongest people need help. I’ve learned that reaching out to the right people—mentors, friends, or even colleagues—keeps me from sinking too deep. Sometimes, simply verbalizing “I’m struggling” brings relief and solutions I didn’t see.

I Accept That Not Every Day Will Be Productive

I used to be so hard on myself when I had off days. But now, I understand that resting isn’t quitting. I give myself grace to pause, but not permission to stop.

I Feed My Mind & Spirit

Prayer, journaling, and consuming positive content keep my mind from spiralling down that slippery slope of sadness. Sometimes, it’s a sermon. Other times, it’s an inspiring podcast episode. What I consume shapes my mindset, and my mindset dictates my actions.

Podcast Reflection – The Highs and Lows of 2019 with Heneka Watkis-Porter

In this episode, I candidly discuss my personal experiences with depression, shedding light on the importance of mental health awareness. I emphasize the necessity of seeking help for mental health challenges, drawing parallels to how we address physical ailments. This conversation serves as a reminder that acknowledging and addressing our mental well-being is crucial for personal and professional growth.

Fun Facts & Resources

Here’s something interesting: Did you know that just 10 minutes of movement can boost your mood? Studies show that short bursts of physical activity release endorphins, the “feel-good” hormones that help combat depression and fatigue.

Since I know getting started is the hardest part, I’m sharing some resources that can help you stay on track when your energy is low.
