Surviving the Sharks on NBC Shark Tank. One Caribbean Man’s Determination to Thrive, with Roberto Cabral

Roberto Cabral is the CEO and Founder of BenjiLock, the world’s first traditional, rechargeable padlock that was the CES 2017 Innovation Awards Honoree in the Smart Home product category.  In 2017, he successfully pitched to the sharks on Shark Tank and successfully struck a deal with Mr. Wonderful, Kevin O’Leary.

Show  Notes:

“In the end, it’s all about your gut. Whatever you’re doing in life, if your gut is telling you to do this or do that, probably go with what you feel instead of just listening to what other people are telling you what to do. If I went with what people were saying about the whole journey beyond Shark Tank, I probably would have quit already because a lot of people told me, you’re not going to make this or this is not going to work out, you’re not going anywhere or that’s a stupid idea…I kept going with my gut and my passion…in the end, your own gut and passion will tell you if it is going to work out or not”.

Those were some inspiring words from this week’s guest on the Entrepreneurial You Podcast, Roberto Cabral. He shares his inspiring entrepreneurial journey from being raised by his single mom in the Dominican Republic, forming a musical band and later moving to the United States with his band members to get a taste of the American Dream; to pursue music and get discovered.

Things did not work out and while the other band members went back home to the Dominican Republic, Roberto stayed in the United States. Find out how this jobless, married father of three was able to come up with the idea of BenjiLock while going to the gym at nights, and how trusting his gut feeling lead him to persevere and to be able to pitch his business successfully on the acclaimed Shark Tank.

Great interview. It goes to show that we are problem solvers and great things come from an idea. Once we can identify a problem, then we must be disciplined enough to work at a solution. Oftentimes it will open doors for wealth. Way to go Sharkie.
